In Chernivtsi, as part of the NUDGING2MOVE project, bicycle racks were delivered and installed

July 16, 2026, a symbolic event took place in Chernivtsi, during which bicycle racks were handed over and installed as part of the international project Promoting active mobility and living for healthier and sustainable cities through nudging” (NUDGING2MOVE), co-funded by the European Union.

The NUDGING2MOVE project aims to develop and implement modern tools based on the concept of “nudging”, which motivate people to choose active modes of transportation more often, lead healthy lifestyles, and create a healthier, more environmentally friendly, and sustainable urban environment. One of the practical areas of the project’s implementation is the development of bicycle infrastructure and the creation of conditions that encourage community residents to use bicycles as a safe, affordable, and eco-friendly mode of transportation.

As part of the event, the non-governmental organization “YOUTH. SCIENCE. SPORTS. HEALTHY MOVEMENT OF UKRAINE” donated bicycle racks to be installed near the building of the Department of Social Policy of the Chernivtsi City Council. The event marked another practical step toward promoting active mobility, developing bicycle infrastructure, and implementing European approaches to creating a comfortable and sustainable urban environment.

The head of the public organization “YOUTH. SCIENCE. SPORTS. HEALTHY MOVEMENT OF UKRAINE”, PhD in Physical Education and Sports, Associate Professor Yaroslav Galan emphasized, that creating conditions for the development of active mobility is one of the most effective tools for encouraging daily physical activity among the population. He stressed that installing bicycle parking racks is not only an improvement to urban infrastructure but also a practical tool for motivating residents to choose eco-friendly transportation more often, reduce their negative impact on the environment, and lead an active lifestyle.

A symbolic handover of the bicycle racks took place to Natalia Frunze, Director of the Department of Social Policy of the Chernivtsi City Council. A significant number of Chernivtsi residents visit the Department every day, so the installation of modern bicycle infrastructure will help create comfortable conditions for those who choose bicycles as a means of transportation. This will also encourage more active use of bicycles, promote sustainable modes of transportation, foster an eco-friendly culture, and integrate the principles of “green” mobility into the community’s daily life.

The event was also attended by Marina Skrypnyk, Deputy Director of the Department of Social Policy of the Chernivtsi City Council, Ihor Basko, Head of the Family and Youth Division of the Chernivtsi City Council, as well as staff members of the Department of Social Policy and the Family and Youth Division of the Chernivtsi City Council.

The event took place as part of the Memorandum of Cooperation between the non-governmental organization “YOUTH. SCIENCE. SPORTS. HEALTHY MOVEMENT OF UKRAINE”, the Department of Social Policy of the Chernivtsi City Council, and as part of the NUDGING2MOVE project.

The development of bicycle infrastructure is a key component in creating a modern, safe, and environmentally responsible urban environment. Such initiatives help promote a healthy lifestyle and active mobility, reduce greenhouse gas emissions, and introduce European sustainable development practices in Ukrainian communities.
