Towards the summits – together: young people, national values and healthy exercise on Mount Makovytsia

To mark Ukrainian National Flag Day, a youth hike up Mount Makovytsia took place, bringing together active young people around national values, team spirit, physical activity and a healthy lifestyle.

The event was organised on the initiative of the Department of Social Policy and the Office for Family and Youth Affairs of the Chernivtsi City Council.

The participants climbed Mount Makovytsia – one of the highest peaks near the town of Yaremcha, situated within the Carpathian National Nature Park. At an altitude of 984.5 metres, the young people unfurled the Ukrainian National Flag as a symbol of unity, freedom, resilience and shared responsibility for the future of our country.

A particularly symbolic moment of the climb was the raising, at the summit, of the flag of the civil society organisation “YOUTH. SCIENCE. SPORT. HEALTHY MOVEMENT OF UKRAINE“. It embodied the youth’s collective drive towards new achievements, an active lifestyle and positive change.

The climb was not only a test of endurance, but also an example of mutual support, solidarity and belief in one’s own abilities. Every step taken demonstrated that a shared goal, perseverance and teamwork help to overcome difficulties and move forward with confidence.

The Chair of the non-governmental organisation “YOUTH. SCIENCE. SPORT. HEALTHY MOVEMENT OF UKRAINE”, Candidate of Sciences in Physical Education and Sport, Associate Professor Yaroslav Galan, emphasised the importance of such initiatives:

‘Such events unite young people around national values, fostering responsibility, mutual respect and team spirit. At the same time, they promote physical activity and a healthy lifestyle, motivating young people to be active, set themselves goals and achieve them with confidence.”

Young people are the driving force behind positive change and the future of a free, strong and independent Ukraine. The ascent of Makovytsia was yet another confirmation that, together, we can travel any path and reach the highest peaks.

Together we overcome difficulties. Together we conquer peaks. Together we build Ukraine!
